Sabah: Kundasang War Memorial, Tanjung Aru Beach.
07:03 One last post about Sabah before moving on! On the way back from Kundasang Cow Farm, we stopped at the Kundasang War Memorial to have a look. At RM2/entry what's to lose. It's a memorial garden dedicated to the lives of soldiers sacrificed during the war in Sandakan. Nothing much to see in there but many plants. There were 4 different gardens in there if not mistaken. Perfect spot to camwhore ! The irony. Reminds me of Hercules. By the time we drove back to the Kota Kinabalu, it was already night. We went to Welcome Seafood Restaurant to satisfy our seafood cravings. Overall, I think it was good. Price was reasonable other than the fish which costed around RM60. Since we went to the restaurant quite late (we were going round and round because we couldn't find the restaurant), they ran out of rm18/kg crabs. The next day before heading to the airport, we went to Tanjung Aru beach for a stroll since it was near the airport. Not as pretty as Pulau Manukan was, but it was surprisingly clean for a public beach. My friend and I were overwhelmed when we saw this shop doing temporary tattoos in the mall near our hotel, Karamunsing Complex i think? So we walked to the shop early in the morning to get them done. Less than RM10 per tattoo! Although mine lasted for 2 days only. Towards the right end of the beach, there was a food court selling all varieties of local food. An abrupt end to this post. Next post would be about Sarawak ! 0 Comments:Wednesday, 22 August 2012
Escaping to Sabah, Part 2.
07:04 tOn the second day, we went to Poring Hot Springs which is about 2-hour drive away from the city center of Kota Kinabalu. The journey was unbearably long but the view outside was incredible. And we're there ! Poring Hot Springs. We didn't know it would be so cold there so all of us wore shorts and tees. But it was quite chilly out there, so if you're going there next time, wear long pants! You can always change into shorts later. When we reached there, I was a little disappointed. My friend told us before it'd be different from what we'd expected (ie one big pool of hot water) but still ! A photo of us soaking our legs in tubs of hot water. Basically there are many empty tubs outdoor so when you've chosen the tub, you just turn on the tap and wait for 30 minutes while hot water fills the tub. Each tub is probably about 0.8m deep and fits around 4 person at a time. The hot spring itself was quite disappointing but luckily there were other parks available there as well such as butterfly farm and canopy walkway which were pretty cheap. But we didn't manage to enter as we enter in a rush to go to Kundasang Cow Farm. Most important question here: Was it smelly ? Surprisingly it wasn't! I mean it didn't smell good but the smell was tolerable. Better than what I'd expected. In the meanwhile, we went outside to camwhore while waiting. Better than doing nothing right. Other than just watching the cows being milked, they also sell fresh milk. So we were watching the cows milked, while drinking their milk. The irony and cruelty. Sun Goku's nimbus cloud ! 0 Comments:Wednesday, 15 August 2012
Escaping to Pulau Manukan, Sabah.
01:57 Been planning for an escape trip to paradise for a year now. Well, not exactly plan but we bought the air tickets one year earlier when Air Asia was having a Zero Fare promotion. If not mistaken, the air ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu costed around, RM30? After landing at KK airport, my friend's relatives drove us around and brought us to a shop selling pork noodles. Apparently they call it 生肉面 instead of what we call 猪肉粉 in KL. The shop was quite near to the airport, probably a 20-minute drive. In contrast to my own belief, the price of food in KK isn't cheap and costs almost the same as in KL. Overall, I think the food was not bad and service was quick, like really quick. The workers will take down orders once you're seated down and food is served within minutes. Then we headed to the beach! Jesselton Point was another 15-minute drive away. How come everything seems so convenient in KK! And the scenes in Jesselton Point is simply breathtaking. Blue skies and clear blue seas. Not something we'd see in KL every other day. After buying the tickets, BOAT RIDE ! Can't remember exactly how much the whole package costed including snorkelling, but it was worth every penny. The boat ride took around 30 minutes to Pulau Manukan, while stopping at Pulau Sapi in the middle. Behold, Manukan Island! Stolen pic from my friend! And not forgetting to camwhore! Two of my friends went parachuting by the beach. Didn't try it myself though, the fear of heights ! However the one thing I didn't like about snorkelling there is that the water was too shallow. Many of us got cuts on our legs because we kept brushing our legs against the corals. Left the beach around 5pm, soaking wet. Didn't manage to bath but if you do visit there, please take some time off to shower before taking the boat ride back to jetty. Because the jetty's toilets were, filthy. Nevertheless, my hair turned out pretty good even after soaking in salty water. What's a good trip without a camwhore pic or two? Continuation in the next post ! Labels: Travel 0 Comments: |
